From the Church Wardens

Dear Friends,
Our thoughts and prayers are with Reverend Julie this month as she recovers from the much needed hip surgery which took place in November. She has spent many hours planning our Advent and Christmas services and events and a warm welcome awaits you at all of these. On December 1, the first Sunday of Advent, Tom and Rosie Hewson will lead a service of Holy Communion at 9:30am at St Mary’s. This will be followed by a Crib service at Holy Trinity at 11am led by Donna Dewar. In the evening, at 6:30pm we will welcome the Revd Peter Francis to Holy Trinity for a Joint Service of Advent Carols, which will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies.

On Friday, December 6 at 12noon the choir and orchestra of Ashdown House School will be performing a lunchtime concert for everyone in the community in Holy Trinity Church, with refreshments served at 11am before the concert.

On the following Sunday, 8 December, we will be holding a service of Christmas Praise at St Mary’s at 9:30am and this will feature St Mary’s School Choir. At Holy Trinity the Revd David Ashdown will conduct a service of Holy Communion at 11am.

St Mary’s School will perform their Nativity Play twice on Wednesday, December 11: at 10am in the morning and 2pm in the afternoon.

The Live Nativity has been a feature of Hartfield Christmas celebrations for a number of years: this year will be no exception, and it will take place on Friday, 13 December, starting on the Town Croft at 6pm and finishing in the church with hot chocolate and cookies. The following day, 14 December, Ashdown House School will be holding their Carol Service at Holy Trinity at 11am.

On Sunday, 15 December there will be two joint services – a joint service of Holy Communion at St Mary’s at 9:30am led by Revd Rob Dillingham and a service of Nine Lessons and Carols, at Holy Trinity at 6:30pm, led by the Revd Peter Francis.

On 18 December there will be a Christingle Service for St Mary’s School in the church at 9:20am and on Friday 20th the School term will draw to an end with the School Christmas Service and Open The Book at 2:30pm in St Mary’s.

On Sunday, 22 December there will be a service of Christmas Peace and Prayer (a quiet reflective service for all ages) at St Mary’s at 9:30am and a Service of Holy Communion, again led by Revd. Rob Dillingham, will take place at 11am at Holy Trinity.

On Christmas Eve, 24 December, we will hold a Crib Service at 4pm at St Mary’s Church, and St Mary’s will also be the venue for a joint midnight communion service, beginning at 11:30pm, led by the Revd David Tidswell (no midnight service at Holy Trinity this year)

On Christmas Morning we will welcome our Archdeacon, Edward Dowler, who will lead both Christmas Communion services, at 9:30am at St Mary’s and at 11am in Holy Trinity.

To round off a busy month of celebrations there will be a joint service of Holy Communion for all ages at Holy Trinity on December 29 at 11am, led by Revd Sharon Francis. We wish you a blessed, peaceful Christmas season and look forward to welcoming you to any of the above events and services. Every blessing

Kathy, Linda, Paul and John
